2021 has been a roller-coaster year for me in many ways but a very important year nonetheless.

There have been many high moments this year ranging from solid results in early season in the UK to racing my first UCI international race in Spain. Firstly, the biggest difference to previous years was that I was living in Spain and training in Spain which was an amazing experience and definitely made my decision of staying in Spain for 2022 very easy. Moving teams to a Spanish team after a good result at the Junior Madrid championships was also a big positive of the year. Of course I couldn’t leave out moving coaches as well, to be under the watchful eye of Cesar Neira. Cesar, te expresaré mi gratitud en tu lengua materna. Muchas gracias por todo lo que has hecho por mí este año. No puedo esperar a trabajar más contigo en el futuro. (Cesar, I will express my gratitude to you in your native language. Thank you very much for everything you have done for me this year. I can’t wait to work with you more in the future.)

(I would like to give another big thank you to Jesús Buendía and CC Cartagena-Esetec-R. Fuentes for welcoming me to their team and taking me with you to my first UCI race. I enjoyed every moment with everyone and I am very happy to have obtained a good result to thank everyone. I wish you all the best for the future.)

The last few people I’d like to say thank you to is Pedal Potential for their support throughout 2021. I’m very grateful for their support in sharing my blog. A big thanks also to Gray and the Quicklink Podcast team for the opportunities this year to waffle about our beloved sport and talk to very interesting people such as a very informative podcast with Dan Bigham. Finally I’d also like to thank my parents and my family for their support through the year. It’s been a tough year for our family after losing my beloved grandfather but I hope I’ve made him proud this year and I will continue to try and make him proud in future.

I’m very excited for what 2022 brings for me with racing in a new country for predominantly the whole year, new nationality, a new, very exciting team in Escribano Sports Team and a new category. It will be a tough year but I’m sure it will be one to remember.

I hope you all had a good Christmas if you celebrate the holiday and I wish you all a happy new year!

Thank you all for reading in 2021 and see you all in 2022

Stay safe

  1. Well done, Lance. Makes very interesting reading. I hope you will take plenty of confidence into 2022. Remember, the path to ‘success’ is not linear or a simple gradient. Plenty of peaks and troughs along the way, but keep working hard and you’ll get there.
